Combining a large 16-inch screen with a weight of only 1.2 kg, the LG Gram 16Z90P is an ode to productivity in comfort… If we accept a reduced power and a screen that is a little too bright. but a magnesium alloy which allows this machine to integrate the same screen.

We are at the end of 2022 and machines in the 12th generation Core and Ryzen 6000 are long overdue. Never mind: machines still equipped with 11 th Gen Core continue to come out, like this intriguing LG Gram 16Z90P. Intriguing, because, at first glance, one is surprised that such a light machine is really functional!
With just under 1.2 kg on the scale (1,190 grams to be precise), we are really in the field of ultraportables… large format. Because, thanks to a very studied chassis in magnesium alloy, LG offers here not a miniature machine, but a real laptop with a 16-inch screen. .

An ultra light and neat chassis
If certain ranges of PC manufacturers have long hunted on the land of aluminium machines from Apple, we see more and more manufacturers resorting to other materials. For an important argument, the weight. Here there is no carbon fibre, but a magnesium alloy which allows this machine to integrate the same screen diagonal as a MacBook Pro 16 , but for half the weight.
All without sacrificing build quality. If it is necessarily more flexible than a MacBook, the LG Gram 16Z90P does not seem ready to give in. The arrangement of the external parts is perfect, the sockets do not seem to show any mechanical fragility.
However, we are a little disappointed that the mains adapter is not in block + cable format, as is the case with MacBooks and certain laptops. Although more compact than a traditional mains charger in proprietary format, this USB-C charger is not a model of compactness either. When we see the efforts in this area and lightness made by the engineers on the machine, there is reason to regret that the LG teams did not go to the end of the concept.Small consolation prize: with such a large format and such compact electronics, LG was able to add a slot for a free NVMe SSD hard drive. What easily expand disk space without having to ruin the purchase.
Chassis-restricted performance-
The SoC that powers this LG Gram 16 is a Core i7 1165G7, a chip that we know well and that can release up to 28 W in its nominal configuration, that is to say in a chassis capable of dissipating and /or expel such heat. However, this is where the LG Gram 16 pays for its finesse and lightness.
Its very thin magnesium alloy body does not allow the 28 W to be maintained for very long. Through its LG Control Center application, you can select three operating modes: “Silent”, “Optimal” and “Perf. “. In silent, the device is stabilised at 10 W, in Optimal at 18 W. Finally, if the performance mode starts at 28 W, after a while the accumulated heat no longer dissipates quickly enough and the processor lowers its frequencies – intelligent piloting called “ throttling ” in the jargon. And, oh surprise, the device (re) stabilises at 18 W according to expert measurements by our colleagues.
What does this change? In the office, almost nothing. In intensive Web use (with video or 3D in tabs), a fan launch and a small performance restriction. It’s still happening. The truth is above all that we very quickly experience a limitation in graphics performance in power-intensive applications (video editing, etc.) or in games.
Although the XE chip with 96 execution units has already proven to be able to run all games satisfactorily in other chassis, here a 3D game with very low polygonal complexity like Deep Rock Galactic in Full HD (level low details) rows much more than on an XPS 13, from Dell, equipped with the same chip.

16 inches: a mobile office dream
We liked this screen a lot, but before we dwell on its beauty and comfort, let’s groan a little. If the brightness is a bit tight for the brightest exteriors, it is especially the shiny surface that can cause some problems in interiors with too many shiny surfaces or light sources.
Since the choice of the non-touch screen is perfectly assumed here, LG would have benefited from integrating a beautiful matte panel.Once the limits of reflection, absence of touch and brightness have been set, we must not hide our pleasure either: working on this 16-inch screen, displaying 2560 x 1600 pixels, is an enormous luxury. And this, even more so when you remember that the device weighs only 1.2 kilograms!
Taking out of your bag a laptop PC whose screen allows, as here, to comfortably display a text file on the left of the screen and, on the right, a Web browser is really the major asset of the machine.
In addition to its battery, really good, with 10:47 in versatile autonomy and 8:49 in video playback.
Real comfort
Once at your office – in the living room, bedroom, or in your REAL offices – the LG Gram 16 makes its key argument speak: comfort. Working comfort with its large keyboard, reading comfort with its 16-inch screen with adequate definition, transport comfort with its featherweight and quite sufficient autonomy to work for a few hours on the train.
Added to this is comfort of use in 10-18W mode (silence, no heating), and comfort of equipment, because there is (almost) no need for external adapters. It took us a while to get used to the keyboard layout – it’s rare to have a number pad on such a thin and light device! – but in half an hour the fold is taken and used laptops for sale in bd.
If we would have appreciated an Ethernet socket (RJ45) for use in offices, the two USB-A ports (USB keys, external hard drives), as well as the double competence – charging and display – of the two USB-C sockets facilitate life. The charger would have benefited from being a block format, the keyboard backlighting is decent enough (off, low and a “strong” mode not that strong) and the webcam is really bad in low light. But it does the job.
Small detail that is not one for everyone: even completely off, the Intel EVO certified device starts and projects you on the Windows desktop in less than eight seconds. We can therefore turn it off completely (the day before, even effectively, consumes) and not have to wait to work quickly the next day.
- There aren’t many full-size laptops that offer the kind of portability, premium craftsmanship, display quality, and daily-use experience you’ll be getting with this LG Gram 16. The ultra-light construction and the high-res and colour-rich 16:10 display are the key selling points of this series, but LG also made sure this laptop doesn’t grossly compromise on anything else either. Some aspects could be improved, though, such as the poor audio and the unpleasant flex in the main chassis and lid panels. We’ll get in-depth on all these in the review down below.
The LG Gram 16 is one of the few large-screen ultrabooks currently available in stores, a computer that offers the lightweight construction, portability, specs, and capabilities of an Evo certified ultrabook, but paired with a larger display. This was made possible with the introduction of 16-inch 16:10 panels in 2021, and this Gram 16 is among the first portable products to get this sort of screen.
Now, most people might not want a large screen on their ultraportable laptop, as that also translates in a larger footprint and an overall larger device to carry around. However, some of you will surely appreciate the convenience of working on this sort of screen, which offers extra space for your applications, but still in a slim and lightweight product. And that’s the LG Gram 16, which weighs just 1.2 kilos (2.6 lbs), plus .3 kilos (.6 lbs) for the charger. Combined, they’re about the same weight as a 13-inch MacBook Air and its charger.
What makes the Gram 16 especially interesting is that despite its lightweight, it still offers the IO, the inputs, the performance, and the battery life you should expect from a thin-and-light ultrabook in 2021, so doesn’t compromise on these ends, unlike some of the other ultra-lightweight laptops that we’ve tested in the past.
So what’s the catch then? Well, the Gram 16 is an expensive laptop, lacks in audio, and is not as sturdily built as I’d perhaps want, but these aside, it’s a good ultrabook. We’ll get in-depth in the review down below and second hand laptop price bd.
The LG Gram 16Z90P is like no other laptop with its unbeatable comfort/weight/compactness ratio. Its large 16-inch screen displaying 2560×1600 pixels offers unparalleled comfort for advanced office use by allowing, in particular, to keep open two applications perfectly readable side by side.
Note – If we must keep in mind that the maximum performance of its Core i7 processor is limited by the compactness of the chassis, apart from games or very resource-intensive applications, we have never seen it row.The perfect version of this king of nomadic office automation? We can imagine it with a 12th Gen Core or a Ryzen 6000, even more efficient than this 11th generation of Core. All with a matte panel and a compact charger with its detachable cable.
